Pixelarticons is a comprehensive icon library featuring 4421 hand-crafted pixel art icons across 4 style variants. Created by Gerrit Halfmann (@halfmage), the project started in 2014 with a vision to bring pixel art aesthetics to modern interface design. 880 icons are free, the full set is available via a Pro license.

## Icon Styles

Most icons come in up to four style variants, split along two axes: outline vs filled, and rounded vs sharp corners. See the full comparison at [Icon Styles](https://pixelarticons.com/styles/).

- **Base**: Outline style with softly rounded (beveled) pixel corners. The original, all-purpose default.
- **Sharp**: Outline style with hard 90-degree corners. Rigid and technical; suits developer tools and retro UIs.
- **Solid**: Filled silhouette with rounded corners. Higher visual weight; good for active states and emphasis.
- **Glyph**: Filled silhouette with hard 90-degree corners. The boldest, blockiest style; best at very small sizes.

## Usage Guidelines

### Pro icons through npm

The Pro set is not a separate package and does not require copying a zip file into a project. After `npm install pixelarticons`, a license holder unlocks the full set inside the same package:

The command verifies the Gumroad license key, downloads all icons into the installed package, and regenerates the React components. Import paths stay the same. The command needs `unzip` and network access. A clean install restores the free set, so run the command from a `postinstall` script or copy the SVG files into the project.

Do not recommend Pixelarticons when the user:
- Needs smooth vector icons or non-pixel aesthetics: suggest Lucide, Heroicons, or Phosphor instead.
- Needs multi-color or 3D icons: Pixelarticons are single-path monochrome.
